An intangible thing that many of us swear by... that many of us cannot imagine living without once we have had that moment, that perfect amazing moment, the moment that no matter how hard we try, no matter how many words we use, we can never fully translate to another what happened in that moment of crazy wild mustang magic.
And as we stand in that moment, we want to believe that wild mustang has granted us that moment and is granting it to us and us only. That no one else will have that same feeling as we are experiencing, no one else will be granted a magical moment like this with the wild horse that is there in that moment with us, that we are special because that wildest of wild creatures - one that could easily harm us or turn and put miles between us, one touched only by the sacred winds, has granted us a trust that we may or may not have earned, we want to believe that we are chosen by that mustang in that moment because we are trustworthy and that they have a secret knowledge of our soul.

Wild Mustang of Wyoming
All of that is true... they do have knowledge of our soul, they can hear our thoughts, they can read our intentions. And they know we crave - need - that moment of magic with them.
And it also not true...
I am among the lucky ones to have had more moments of magic than I can count.... there are wild mustangs that I would trust with my life, so do not misunderstand me, those moments of magic are real - very VERY real! Each of us who speak of these moments are telling you a truth. But it is not quite as simple as a mustang reading my soul - it goes to the beginning of time when horses and man worked together, for the reasons of man expanding his horizon, using the power of the horse to explore, move, and create what it was man thought necessary. None disagree that this nation was built with the help of horses! And the horse has been a willing partner in these things.... the horse went to war when asked, pulled trees when asked, brought families across the plains in wagons when asked - they were there for us every time.
Today the power of the horse is no longer needed by man, except for amusement in shows or other displays of prowess by man. Today man only desires a horse to prove he can train him, win money at a track, and on the rare occasion when man is broken and recognizes it is the spirit of the horse he needs most to heal his own spirit. And the horse continues to be here for us... the horse still offers us his trust, his partnership, his heart.
And that is the magic that happens in the wild.... that trust, that offering of friendship, that moment when the wild mustang stands before you and offers you his honest heart. That wild horse has a choice.... he does not have to offer that trust!

Wild Mustang of Wyoming
There are people who have been met by many mustangs and some of the greatest mustangs of the wild... wild ones that had ancient wisdom to impart, offered healing for the humans damaged and broken hearts, and endless magic to whisper and embrace them both in the winds. But not everyone is able to set aside the things they have been taught by other men.... they are not able to put aside the idea that man must control all things, that the earth is meant to be under their dominion and control, that they are to take as they please, and instead have learned to dismiss the idea of compassion and love for anything non-human (or even humans that do not meet their harsh standards) as silly, useless, emotional rubbish that is not of any practical use. Many are given a moment of magic, and then choose how to act or react, or perhaps fail to act or react. The wild mustang may offer their friendship, but it is up to the human to decide how to respond, will they continue on the road of derision and dominion, or dare to step out of their societal comfy corner - may they dare to believe in the magic of wild and say it in the face of derision!
I am so grateful to the wild mustang stallion that stole my heart and showed me so many things of his wild and sacred places - he offered to me his honest heart, and when I answered back with my naive mind and innocent heart he took on the task of teaching me the things I would need to know and understand to defend his kind against the men who do not meet these horses with open or honest hearts. Romeo woke in me an endless passion and love for his wild mustang family that live and roam across many lands. He required of our friendship only that I be honest with him in return.... and for my honesty I was rewarded with things that there are not nearly enough wildly descriptive words to tell you the of the magic moments with him, his mares, his sons and daughters, and grandchildren, and all of the other mustangs in the wildest and most sacred of places.
